Before planning an implant it is worth knowing what level of demand the case involves. The SAC classification, born within the ITI, sorts implant situations into three grades, straightforward, advanced and complex, and offers explicit criteria for anticipating the risk, the complexity and the skills each treatment calls for. Its content comes from the consensus reached by a multidisciplinary group of clinicians convened in Mallorca, and translates into guidance that applies to the surgical and the prosthetic side alike. Dawson, Chen, Buser, Cordaro, Martin and Belser present it as a decision-making tool: it helps the clinician gauge whether a case is within reach, and the teacher to grade training.
