The failure of an implant is rarely an accident: behind it there is usually a bacterially mediated inflammatory disease, equivalent to the one that destroys the support of the natural tooth. Padullés Roig follows that parallel — mucositis and peri-implantitis against gingivitis and periodontitis — and adds a dimension seldom addressed: bacterially induced corrosion of titanium and its biomechanical repercussions on the implant components. The underlying argument is that managing complications weighs as heavily in the implant dentist's work as the surgical and prosthetic procedures of rehabilitation. Text in Spanish.
