Istvan Urban breaks down horizontal and vertical ridge augmentation by guided bone regeneration, starting with what is usually taken for granted: the surgical anatomy of the floor of the mouth, patient selection and the scientific documentation of membranes and grafting materials. On that basis he develops flap design — with the modified lingual advancement and protection of the mental nerve — membrane adaptation, horizontal augmentation using the sausage technique, reconstruction of the resorbed maxilla with simultaneous sinus elevation, and the use of BMP-2 and PDGF. He also addresses membrane exposure and graft infection, and the lessons learned discuss what might have been done differently. In English.
